Sunday Gospel  "For God So Loved the World" March 18, 2011

John 3: 14 - 21 - For God So Loved the World


14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up,
15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life."
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
18 He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
19 And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.

               14 At kung paanong itinaas ni Moises ang tansong ahas doon sa ilang, gayundin naman, kailangang itaas ang Anak ng Tao, 15 upang ang sinumang sumampalataya sa kanya ay magkaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan. 16 Sapagkat gayon na lamang ang pag-ibig ng Diyos sa sangkatauhan, kaya't ibinigay niya ang kanyang kaisa-isang Anak, upang ang sinumang sumampalataya sa kanya ay hindi mapahamak, kundi magkaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan. 17 Isinugo ng Diyos ang kanyang Anak, hindi upang hatulang maparusahan ang mga tao, kundi upang iligtas ang mga ito sa pamamagitan niya.

               18 Hindi hinahatulang maparusahan ang sumasampalataya sa Anak. Ngunit hinatulan na ang hindi sumasampalataya, sapagkat hindi siya sumampalataya sa kaisa-isang Anak ng Diyos. 19 Ganito ang paghatol ng Diyos: naparito sa sanlibutan ang ilaw, ngunit inibig pa ng mga tao ang dilim kaysa liwanag, sapagkat ang kanilang mga gawain ay masasama. 20 Kinasusuklaman ng mga gumagawa ng masama ang ilaw, ni hindi lumalapit dito upang hindi mahayag ang kanilang mga gawa. 21 Ngunit ang namumuhay ayon sa katotohanan ay lumalapit sa ilaw, upang maihayag na ang mga ginagawa niya ay pagsunod sa Diyos.

Gospel Mark 1:40-45 Jesus Cleanses a Leper

40 A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, ‘If you choose, you can make me clean.’ 41Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, ‘I do choose. Be made clean!’ 42Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. 43After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, 44saying to him, ‘See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’ 45But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.

Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Isang Ketongin

40 Isang taong may ketong ang lumapit kay Jesus, lumuhod ito at nagmakaawa, "Kung nais po ninyo, ako'y inyong mapapagaling at magagawang malinis."

41 Nahabag si Jesus sa ketongin kaya't hinawakan niya ito at sinabi, "Oo, nais ko! Gumaling ka!" 42 Noon di'y nawala ang ketong ng lalaki at siya'y naging malinis. 43 Matapos mapagbilinan, agad siyang pinaalis ni Jesus 44 at pinagsabihan ng ganito: "Huwag mong sasabihin ito kaninuman. Sa halip ay magpunta ka at magpasuri sa pari. Pagkatapos, mag-alay ka ng handog para sa Diyos ayon sa iniutos ni Moises bilang patunay sa mga tao na ikaw ay magaling at malinis na."

45 Ngunit pagkaalis ng lalaki ay kanyang ipinamalita ang nangyari sa kanya. Dahil dito, hindi na nakapasok pa ng bayan si Jesus. Nanatili na lamang siya sa labas ng bayan subalit pinupuntahan pa rin siya ng mga tao mula sa iba't ibang dako.

Jesus Heals Many at Simon’s House  Mark 1: 29 - 39

29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed#with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

32 That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

35 In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37When they found him, they said to him, ‘Everyone is searching for you.’ 38He answered, ‘Let us go on to the neighbouring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.’ 39And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Mark 1: 21 - 28

The Man with an Unclean Spirit
21And they went into Caper'na-um; and immediately on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.
22And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.
23And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit;
24and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God."
25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!"
26And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
27And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him."
28And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

 21 Nagpunta sina Jesus sa Capernaum, at nang sumunod na Araw ng Pamamahinga ay pumasok si Jesus sa sinagoga at nagturo. 22 Namangha ang mga tao sapagkat nagtuturo siya nang may kapangyarihan, hindi tulad ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. 23 Bigla namang pumasok sa sinagoga ang isang lalaking sinasapian ng masamang espiritu. Ito'y sumigaw, 24 "Ano ang pakay mo sa amin, Jesus na taga-Nazaret? Naparito ka ba upang kami'y puksain? Kilala#kita, ikaw ang Banal na mula sa Diyos." 25 Ngunit iniutos ni Jesus sa masamang espiritu, "Tumahimik ka! Lumabas ka sa kanya!" 26 Pinangisay ng masamang espiritu ang lalaki at sumisigaw itong lumabas sa kanya. 27 Ang lahat ay namangha kaya't sila'y nagtanungan sa isa't isa, "Paanong nangyari iyon? Ito ay isang kakaibang katuruan! Makapangyarihan niyang nauutusan ang masasamang espiritu, at sumusunod naman ang mga ito sa kanya." 28 Dahil dito, mabilis na kumalat sa buong Galilea ang balita tungkol kay Jesus.

 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’

16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fish for people.’ 18And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

Ang Simula ng Pangangaral sa Galilea 

14 Nang ibinilanggo na si Juan, si Jesus ay nagpunta sa Galilea at ipinangaral doon ang Magandang Balitang mula sa Diyos. 15 Sinabi niya, "Dumating na ang takdang panahon. Malapit nang maghari ang Diyos! Kaya magsisi na kayo't talikuran ang inyong mga kasalanan. Paniwalaan na ninyo ang Magandang Balita!"

 Ang Pagtawag sa Apat na Mangingisda 

16 Habang naglalakad si Jesus sa tabi ng Lawa ng Galilea, nakita niya ang magkapatid na Simon at Andres na nanghuhuli ng isda sa pamamagitan ng lambat. Sila'y kapwa mga mangingisda. 17 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, "Sumunod kayo sa akin at kayo'y gagawin kong mangingisda ng mga tao." 18 Pagkasabi niya nito'y agad iniwan ng magkapatid ang kanilang mga lambat at sumunod sa kanya. 19 Nagpatuloy siya sa paglalakad, at sa di-kalayuan ay nakita naman niya ang magkapatid na Santiago at Juan, na mga anak ni Zebedeo. Sila'y nasa kanilang bangka at nag-aayos ng mga lambat. 20 Tinawag din sila agad ni Jesus at sila ay sumunod din sa kanya. Iniwan nila sa bangka ang kanilang ama na kasama ang kanilang mga upahang manggagawa.

The Visit of the Wise Men  Matthew 2:1-12

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was borf in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, ‘Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.’ When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, ‘In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: “And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.” ’ Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, ‘Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.’ When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure-chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.

 1 Panahon ng paghahari ni Herodes sa Judea nang ipanganak si Jesus sa Bethlehem. Nang siya'y isilang, may mga matatalinong taong mula pa sa silangan ang dumating sa Jerusalem. 2 Nagtanungtanong sila, "Nasaan ang ipinanganak na hari ng mga Judio? Nakita namin sa silangan ang kanyang bituin, kaya't naparito kami upang siya'y sambahin." 3 Nang mabalitaan ito ni Haring Herodes, siya'y naligalig, gayundin ang buong Jerusalem. 4 Kaya't tinipon niya ang lahat ng mga punong pari at mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at sila'y tinanong, "Saan ba isisilang ang Cristo?" 5 Tumugon sila, "Sa Bethlehem po, sapagkat ganito po ang isinulat ng propeta: 6 'At Ikaw, Bethlehem, sa lupain ng Juda, ay hindi pinakahamak sa mga pangunahing bayan ng Juda. Sapagkat sa iyo magmumula ang isang pinuno na mamamahala sa aking bayang Israel.'" 7 Nang mabatid ito, palihim na ipinatawag ni Herodes ang mga matatalinong tao at inusisa kung kailan lumitaw ang bituin. 8 Pagkatapos, sila ay pinapunta niya sa Bethlehem na ganito ang bilin, "Hanapin ninyong mabuti ang sanggol. Kapag natagpuan ninyo siya, ipagbigay-alam agad ninyo sa akin upang ako man ay pumunta roon at sumamba rin sa kanya." 9-10 Pagkarinig sa bilin ng hari, sila'y nagpatuloy na sa paghahanap; sila'y pinangunahan ng bituing nakita nila mula sa silangan. Ganoon na lamang ang kanilang kagalakan nang makita nilang tumigil ang bituin sa tapat ng kinaroroonan ng bata. 11 Pagpasok sa bahay, nakita nila ang bata sa piling ni Maria na kanyang ina. Nagpatirapa sila at sinamba ang bata. Inihandog din nila sa kanya ang mga dala nilang ginto, insenso at mira. 12 Nang sila'y papauwi na, nakatanggap sila ng babala sa pamamagitan ng panaginip na huwag nang bumalik kay Herodes, kaya't nag-iba na sila ng daan pauwi.

The Birth of Jesus Foretold  Luke 1: 26 - 38

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.’ 29But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. 31And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. 33He will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.’ 34Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?’ 35The angel said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. 36And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. 37For nothing will be impossible with God.’ 38Then Mary said, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her.

John 1: 6 - 8, 19 - 28
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
20 He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No."
22 They said to him then, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?"
26 John answered them, "I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know,
27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."
28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

The Judgement of the Nations

31 ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”

Pumasok kayo at tanggapin ang kahariang inihanda para sa inyo mula pa nang likhain ang daigdig. 35 Sapagkat ako'y inyong pinakain noong ako'y nagugutom; ako'y inyong pinainom noong ako'y nauuhaw. Ako'y isang dayuhan at inyong pinatuloy. 36 Ako'y walang maisuot at inyong dinamitan, nagkasakit at inyong dinalaw, nabilanggo at inyong pinuntahan.'

The Parable of the Talents Matthew 25: 14-30

25:14 “For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them. 25:15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 25:16 The one who had received five talents went off right away and put his money to work and gained five more. 25:17 In the same way, the one who had two gained two more. 25:18 But the one who had received one talent went out and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money in it. 25:19 After a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled his accounts with them. 25:20 The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, saying, ‘Sir, you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ 25:21 His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 25:22 The one with the two talents also came and said, ‘Sir, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more.’ 25:23 His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Heto naman po ang dalawang libong salaping ginto na tinubo nito.'   23"Sinabi ng kanyang panginoon, 'Magaling! Tapat at mabuting lingkod! Naging tapat ka sa kaunting halaga, kaya't pamamahalain kita sa malaking halaga. Makihati ka sa aking kagalakan!' 24 "Lumapit naman ang tumanggap ng isanlibong salaping ginto at sinabi, 'Alam ko pong kayo'y mahigpit at pinipitas ninyo ang bunga ng hindi ninyo itinanim at inaani ninyo ang hindi ninyo inihasik. 25 Natakot po ako, kaya't ibinaon ko sa lupa ang inyong salaping ginto. Heto na po ang salaping iniwanan ninyo sa akin.' 26 "Sumagot ang kanyang panginoon, 'Masama at tamad na lingkod! Alam mo palang pinipitas ko ang bunga ng hindi ko tanim at inaani ang hindi ko inihasik, 27 bakit hindi mo na lamang inilagay sa bangko ang aking salapi! Kahit paano'y may tinubo sana ito! 28 Kunin ninyo sa kanya ang isanlibong salaping ginto at ibigay sa may sampung libong salaping ginto. 29 Sapagkat ang mayroon ay bibigyan pa, at mananagana; ngunit ang wala, kahit ang kakaunting nasa kanya ay kukunin pa. 30 Itapon ninyo sa kadiliman sa labas ang walang silbing taong iyan! Doo'y mananangis siya at magngangalit ang kanyang mga ngipin.'"

The Greatest Commandment 
 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. ‘Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’ He said to him, ‘ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’

 34 Nagtipun-tipon ang mga Pariseo nang mabalitaan nilang napatahimik ni Jesus ang mga Saduseo. 35 Isa sa kanila, na dalubhasa sa Kautusang Judio, ang nagtanong kay Jesus upang subukin ito. 36 "Guro, alin po ang pinakamahalagang utos sa Kautusan?" tanong niya. 37 Sumagot si Jesus, "Ibigin mo ang Panginoon mong Diyos nang buong puso, nang buong kaluluwa, at nang buong pag-iisip. 38 Ito ang pinakamahalagang utos. 39 Ito naman ang pangalawa: Ibigin mo ang iyong kapwa gaya ng pag-ibig mo sa iyong sarili. 40 Sa dalawang utos na ito nakasalalay ang buong Kautusan ni Moises at ang katuruan ng mga propeta."
