Babang Luksa Ni Nanay

Babang Luksa Ni Nanay

Salamat Po Nanay Sa Pagmamahal Na Inialay Mo

Salamat Po Nanay Sa Pagmamahal Na Inialay Mo

Wala an ako magawa kundi maicomfort sya sa phone at internet.

Single Mother & An OFW

Single Mother & An OFW

Clip from Movie Anak by: Vilma Santos

I want to share a short story about Nanay Lydia.

Origins of Mother's Day

Ana Jarvis

As Mother's Day 2009 approaches, some curious thoughts come to mind about the tradition.
Flowers, chocolates, wine and poetry -- traditional gifts of Mother's Day -- also traditional gifts used by a man to woo a woman. But your mother doesn't need wooing -- she's yours! So, there's something in common that doesn't have to do with wooing, but which does have to do with a woman's emotional nature.

Origins of Mother's Day in the West

Although bouquets of flowers are traditional gifts on Mother's Day, it wasn't always so, just as there wasn't always a Mother's Day. Anna Jarvis was the founder of Mother's day, and carnations were the first flower to represent Mother's Day. Anna gave a white carnation to every person at one of the earliest celebrations of Mother's Day as a symbol of the purity of the love of her mother, Ann Jarvis, who did selfless work on behalf of miners to get better working conditions. Anna chose the carnation because it was her mother's favorite flower. Thus, she started the custom of wearing a carnation on Mother's Day. The purity of a woman's love has to do with devotion and kindness, and the giving of flowers has to do with the acknowledgment of that devotion.

Mother's Day is celebrated around the world -- and at all times during the year, according to the culture. In most countries, Mother's Day is a recent observance derived from the holiday as it has evolved in North America and Europe. Many African countries adopted the idea of Mother's Day from the British, although many festivals and events celebrate mothers within the diverse cultures of the African continent and long pre-date colonization.

Origin in the East

Mother's Day is celebrated worldwide. In Nepal and other countries following Hindu traditions, it's called "Mata Tirtha Aunshi" or "Mother Pilgrimage fortnight". There is a very interesting legend regarding this pilgrimage. In ancient time, Lord Krishna's mother, Devaki, walked out her house for some sight-seeing. She visited many places and was long in returning. Lord Krishna became very unhappy because of his mother's absence, so he went out in search of her. He wandered to many places without success. At last, when he reached "Mata Tirtha Kunda", he found his mother bathing in a pond. Lord Krishna was very happy to find her and told her of all of his longings during her absence. Mother Devaki said to Lord Krishna, "Oh! Son Krishna! Then let this place be a place of pilgrimage for children to meet their departed mothers." Legends hold that since then, this place has been a holy pilgrimage site for devotees to see their deceased mothers. Also, legend has it that one devotee saw his mother's image inside the pond and died falling in, there. To this day, there is, in that place, a small pond fenced by iron rods. After worship there on Mother's Day, pilgrims enjoy festive singing and dancing throughout the day. There is no evidence of the events of this legend actually happening; it comes from elders based on ancient readings.

Enjoy Mother's Day poems by the poet, Nicolas Gordon, and sayings by many famous personages. You'll be surprised -- and you can use these poems and sayings in your own, original Mother's Day card.

Top Concerns for Mothers After Childbirth

Top Concerns for Mothers After Childbirth
by Jess Chamberlain

Some women think that pregnancy is difficult and that life can't be any harder then that...boy are they in for a surprise. Having kids is one of the most amazing things you will ever experience but it is also one of the hardest.

After the child is born you still have many issues to deal with like the following:

Hormonal changes while your body tries to get back into sync with regular womanhood You are exhausted from your baby waking at night wanting to eat or cuddle If you breastfeed the demand is all on you and your nipples and breasts are sore You now just feel fat because you have extra weight but no baby inside of you as your excuse as to why you just chowed down on two quarter-pounders with cheese You have a low sex drive because you feel fat, are exhausted and terrified of another nine months right away

Well the good news is that you are not the only one that feels like that after having kids. Every new mother has some concerns, self esteem issues, etc. We are human...mothers are sometimes Super Human but every woman who has a baby goes through the same thing.

Here are some tips to help you deal with the main after childbirth issues.

Lack of Sleep

When you have a baby you need to be on your A-Game so mommies please sleep when your baby sleeps. I know you think there is laundry to fold, food to cook, dishes to clean etc but just sleep! Your husband would much rather have a rested wife than a clean house. People hate to ask for help when they need it but if you are too exhausted to function ask a friend, relative or babysitter to come over for a few hours so you can get the much needed sleep that you need.

Loosing the Excess Pregnancy Weight

The best way to loose your pregnancy weight is with a healthy diet and exercise routine. Don't push yourself the day you get from the hospital. Understand that your body just went through an amazing yet exhausting experience and needs time to heal. Remember it took you nine months to gain the weight so it may take that long to loose it. Crash diets will not work so eat right and exercise by taking your baby on walks.

Getting and Feeling Sexy Again for Your Man

This is a scary thing for women because they don't feel sexy. Mommies believe it or not your husbands actually think you are sexier now than they did before you gave birth to their child. They are actually in total awe and jealous of what your body has just done...men think they can do everything but they can not give birth to a human being!

To keep the spark alive or to reignite it you will both have to work at it. Let your partner know your concerns so he can help you feel better about them by complimenting your new curves, etc. Before you know it you will feel sexy again.

Taking Care of Yourself

My husband said that the second our son was born the mommy switch inside clicked on and has never turned off. I, like most mothers, have a tendency to always make sure that my husband and my son have everything they need before I do. That is a noble thing but you can't neglect yourself or you will gain resentment that is unhealthy. Doing something small to take care of yourself like a manicure, hair cut, eyebrow wax etc is not selfish it is healthy.

Finding Some Alone Time

Every mom needs some alone time for relaxation to get away from baby spit up, dirty diapers, crying and more. Take some time for yourself every day and enjoy a hot bath, two chapters of a good book, your favorite dessert. Make sure to do something that will make you happy and relaxed so you can hit the next day and the next task with full force and a big smile.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding - tips for a balanced diet

Pregnancy and breastfeeding - tips for a balanced diet

The most critical thing about dietary requirements during pregnancy is that you should start to consider these BEFORE conception. Critical development of your baby starts at conception. Eating well before pregnancy will give your body a good store of nutrients for your baby to draw on during pregnancy.

The objective is to ensure that your body has all of the nutrients it needs for optimum health. It is important to eat from all of the main food groups as no single food can provide all of the essential nutrients that the body needs. This is why the need for a ‘balanced’ diet is often emphasised.
There are two areas to consider:
1. Getting the appropriate amount of calories, a balance between the calories that you eat and the calories that you burn.
2. Consuming a combination of various essential nutrients in the correct proportions, this will lead to good nutrition.

These essential nutrients are grouped as follows:
· Carbohydrates
· Fats
· Fibre
· Minerals
· Protein
· Vitamins
· Water

Obtaining a balance of these nutrients means eating a variety of foods from all of the five basic food groups in the correct proportions, no single food can provide all of the essential nutrients that the body needs. The western diet today tends to have too much fat and too little fibre for some a small shift can mean a major health benefit.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) uses the commonly accepted food groups to describe a healthy diet:
· Bread, potatoes and other cereals
· Fruit and vegetables
· Milk and dairy products
· Meat, fish and alternatives
· Foods containing fats; foods and drinks containing sugars

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) describes these dietary guidelines through its new food pyramid; MyPyramid. It’s food grouping is fairly similar, although broadly speaking the fruit and vegetables is spilt into two groups instead of one.

Whichever way these groups are split, eliminating one food group from your diet could risk developing a nutrient imbalance and deficiencies.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provide dietary guidelines that describe a healthy diet as one that:
· Emphasises fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low fat milk and milk products
· Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts
· Is low in saturated fats, transfats, cholesterol, salt and added sugars

Recommendations are very similar from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK.

During pregnancy your requirements for calories and nutrients change, the requirements for nutrients double but the calorific need only increases 15% so it is important to make sure that what you eat counts!

Key tips:
· A good variety of food intake
· Plenty of fruits, grains and vegetables
· Ensure EFA levels are adequate
· Drink at least 6 – 8 glasses of water a day
· Reduce fat intake, especially saturated and trans fatty acids
· Reduce sugar intake
· Reduce salt intake
· Eliminate alcohol, smoking and drugs

Vegans and vegetarians do not need to worry as long as their diets are well-balanced; careful planning may be required. If it is not then there may be a need for supplementation to boost necessary nutrients or vitamins. The requirements for Vitamin B12 (found in manufactured foods), Vitamin D (may just require extra doses of sunshine!), iron, zinc and calcium all increase during pregnancy and this can lead to deficiency if not corrected.
Another often forgotten nutrient is omega3 fatty acids, this plays an important role in brain function and development. Some women can enter pregnancy already deficient in this important nutrient; sources include fatty fish, flax seed and walnuts. But be careful of certain fish and their mercury content.

Make the most of pregnancy and breastfeeding by eating a balanced diet.
