A Blue Ribbon For You - Who I Am Makes A Difference
Dad How Much Is Your Time?
A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.
SON : 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'
DAD : 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.
SON : 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD : 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.
SON : 'I just want to know.. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD : 'If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour.'
SON : 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.
SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $10.00 ?'
The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.'
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10..00 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.
'Are you asleep, son?' He asked..
'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.
'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man.
'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you.
Here's the $10.00 you asked for..'
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' He yelled.
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.
'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.
'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.
I Need Help for My Restaurant City!

Yes you read it right! I need help for my Restaurant City. One of my favorite games in Facebook is Restaurant City. Not because of bumabalik ako sa pagkabata, but dito ko nakakabonding ang mga anak ko. Kahit ha na virtually. Back to my problem. To those who are Restaurant City fanatics. If you check with the image, my three employees is not working at all. Is their any tips. Please help!
Actually this is not for me but for my little lovely Angel. Due to the storm Ondoy our internet connection is still disconnected. So to cope up with the points and level of the games I try to work for her Restaurant city and other games in Facebook.
I fed them when they are hungry and I give them a day off when they are tired. Saan ba ako nagkamali? Hindi naman ako naging malupit sa kanila. Bakit sila nagwewelga? So mga KABLOGS,kapuso and kapamilya give me some advice.
Well it just a game. But what are the lessons we can learn from it in real life.
For the employers: They should take care of their employees so that the employees will take care of their business.
For the Employees: They should work hard so that the employers will take care of their lives.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

Huwag mo sana akong pagtatawanan o pagsasawaang pakinggan.

Father & Son Amazing Ironman Race

Life Story of Dick & Rick Hoyt
The is very inspiring story of Dick Hoyt and his son Rick (a handicap). A son asked his father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?" The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, "Dad, let's join the Ironman together." To which, his father said 'Yes' too.
For your information Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together.
Here is one of the testimonies in Hoyt site:
"Today, I watched a show called Amazing Families and saw your story. I just wanted to say 'thanks' to your whole family. I am very aware that it is because of people like yourselves, who fought before us to get acceptance in the real world, that our struggles are less. Yes, I do have to be vigilant and fight for my son to have what he needs, but because others have done it before us, it is easier. Now I can go into a school meeting and say, 'Zachary will go to college. Look at Rick Hoyt, he did it, and so will Zach.' You have helped me to affirm that anything is possible if you are willing to be creative and work hard..."

Philippians 4:13
When Grandparent's Day Began

'Where there is a will, there is a way. Belief in oneself and one's abilities can move mountains and change the shape of the world we live in. And it all starts with a single idea. Single-handedly, Marion Lucille Herndon McQuade created a landmark in the history of service and efforts for the elderly.
In 1956, Mrs. McQuade helped Jim Comstock, editor of the West Virginia Hillbilly and the Richwood News Leader, in organizing a Past 80 Party. Sympathetic towards the octogenarians who were pampered around Christmas with family visits and gifts, they spent the other 364 days of the year in quiet and nostalgic reminiscence of memories. They were isolated from the love and visits of families, and Mrs. McQuade realized that the family tree was disintegrating all across the states.
To organize the Past 80 Party entailed reaching out to several nursing homes. Mrs. McQuade was heartbroken when she discovered the sadness and chronic isolation experienced by a large number of the elderly. She devoted most of her time for the next five years lobbying. Her drive and ambition paid off. On May 27, 1973, a special Grandparent's Day was proclaimed in the state of West Virginia by Governor Arch Moore.
But that was only the beginning. Buoyed by success at the state level, Mrs. McQuade worked tirelessly through U.S. Senators Robert Byrd and Jennings Randolph to create a national observance at the national level. Her efforts and dreams were realized in September 1978, when the White House called to inform her that President Jimmy Carter had signed Public Law 96-62, and it had been given unanimous Congressional approval ... the Sunday after Labour Day was designated as National Grandparent's Day. The first nationwide observance occurred in 1979, and it continues to grow in popularity. The month of September was aptly chosen for the holiday to signify the "autumn years" of life for the elderly generation.
Today millions throughout the United States observe this event, begun by only a few.
Mrs. McQuade has made it her goal to educate the youth community on the important contributions made by the senior citizens, as well as requesting contributions that they are willing to make if asked. She has also urged the younger generation to adopt a grandparent for a lifetime of experience and caring. You realize that the true meaning of family bonding and experience cannot be bought in any bookstore or imparted in any corporate training.
The statute's preamble cites the day's purpose as: "... to honour grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer."
The official song of National Grandparents Day is "A Song for Grandma And Grandpa" by Johnny Prill. The official flower is wonderful--the forget-me-not.
The main purpose of celebrating Grandparent's day is: to honour grandparents, to give them an opportunity to show their love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of the quality of information and guidance older people can offer in their lives.
Isolation from near and dear ones is a growing social phenomenon. People try to assuage their loneliness in material pleasures and trying to maximize the output of 24 hours a day. In every neighbourhood, there are elderly who would love an opportunity to be a Foster Grandparent. Take a look around the next time you go out for a walk.
Most important, Grandparent's Day can signify a loving spirit that lives within us throughout the year--a spirit of love and respect for our elders.

Bids And Prayers for Hannah

I have came across to kiddomind blog about Baby Hanah. As I continuing reading the article. I was touch by her story as well as her parent sacrifices. Let me tell you a bit of their story.
Hannah S. Cordoviz is her real name or Baby Hannah. Born on August 14, 2007. Hannah is a cute and energetic kid as you can see, but she was afflicted with Congenital Central Hypoventilation (CCHS). In laymen term the nerve center that is supposed to make her breath in not functioning well. The doctor had to cut a hole in her throat in order to put a Tracheostomy Tube and attached it with a Respirator to keep her breathing.
Due to her very delicate condition, which requires 24/7 care, her parent were force to resigned from their respective jobs. To cover up her mediation, hospitalization and nurse, not to mention their daily needs, they make Rosary and sell it from their online store
It is truly difficult for a parent to see their child suffering from such illness. In spite of the trials, they still put their trust in the Lord. They believe that God has a plan and a mission for them. And their mission is to propagate prayers.
For those who would like to share their blessing, kindly visit Hannah Ysabelle Homepage.
Let us pray for complete healing of baby Hannah.
Father's Day - Facts About Fathers, Worldwide Observances and Gift Ideas
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Beth_Christopher]Beth Christopher

About 4,000 years ago a young boy named Elmusu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life by carving a Father's Day message on a card made out of clay. No one knows what happened to Elmusu or his father, but the tradition of having a special day honoring fathers has continued through the years in countries across the world.
The idea of Father's Day was conceived by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children by himself on a rural farm.
Dr. Robert Webb of West Virginia is believed to have conducted the first Father's Day service in 1908 at the Central Church of Fairmont.
President Lyndon B. Johnson recognized the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day with a presidential proclamation in 1966, but the holiday was not really made permanent until 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed a presidential resolution that made the third Sunday in June officially Father's Day in the United States.

As "nontraditional" family structures become more common, any nurturing man - a "big brother", a brother-in-law, an uncle, a neighbor or perhaps another special man who is "like a father" is likely to be honored on Father's Day.
Nine out of 10 Americans say they look forward to receiving personal letters and greeting cards because cards allow them to keep in touch with friends and family and make them feel they are important to someone else.
Although e-mail, text messaging and phone calls are valued by Americans for helping them communicate with family and friends, the majority of Americans say they prefer the old-fashioned handwritten card or letter to make someone feel truly special.
No matter what day you celebrate, the point is to make Father's Day special for the man you are honoring. There are lots of gifts out there, but if you really want to make someone feel special, reconnect them to past memories and feelings through personal photos. And how do you do that? Easy! John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
Educational Plan or Educational Lang

Instead of ibalik ang mga naihulog nila ay pinapalitan ng Memorial Lot or Beauty products. Dios ko po! Anu ba yan?
Isa na dito ang SEC or Security and Exchange Commission.
Single Mother & An OFW
I Love You Dad!
Naging good provider saya sa amin. Though miles we are apart but deep in my heart I believe na mahal nya kami.
I want to share this story to all fathers and sons around the earth. What matter most is precious every moment while they are around.
I praise the Lord to have a wonderful father like him.
Happy Birthday Pa!
&
I love you!
Frugal Living Tips for New Dads
With a recession in full swing, and the possibility of more to come, new dads have to figure out how to cut costs even with a baby on the way. Here are a few frugal living tips:
Don't fall for the temptation to buy every electronic gizmo that might help you take care of your baby. Human beings for millions of years have done without the latest gadgets and done just fine. Babies need food, changing, love, and attention. You'll get far more value out of just "spending time" with your baby, rather than spending money on videos and stimulating electronic toys.
Make a list of all the items you'll need for your nursery. Talk to other parents and show them this list to find out what was really necessary, in what turned out to be a waste of money. The results may surprise you.
Make sure friends and family are aware that you are neither too modest or too proud to take hand-me-downs. Almost everyone shares slightly used clothing, baby paraphernalia, and lots of baby books with parents who are just a few months behind on the baby curve. Make sure that friends with kids just a few months older than yours know that you love to get their hand-me-downs.
Shop eBay and other used sites for discount items. You'll be shocked at a price of baby merchandise at the store, but used prices might be significantly less expensive.
Start buying things for baby as early as possible. If you arm yourself with your trusted list, you can take advantage of sales on specific items. Watch for grocery store sales on diapers and formula and stock up even before the baby arrives.
Trying to check your brand-consciousness when you shop. Your baby is truly one person in your life who won't care what logo he wears on his polo shirt.
Into your friends that you'd really like a baby shower. Baby showers are great for getting things that you might not buy it for yourself, and also things that other parents know you will need to have.
Don't forget the library for parenting books. There are also local community "toy libraries" where you can check out toys for short periods of time.
Never forget that babies and kids need your time and love are more than they do cool toys and accessories.

Is Your Child Flirting With A Pedophile?
by Matt Marshall
Karen Berry's job was to work with kids who had been molested. She had all the proper training and she knew all the signs.
So before her son was allowed to use the internet, she purchased all the popular internet protection software. She checked on him frequently.
So how did her son end up as a victim of sexual abuse?
It all started quite simply. At 13, Justin Berry was a normal kid. He wasn't very popular and he was concerned about fitting in.
His internet provider sent him a free webcam for using their service. He placed a photo online in the hopes of finding a girlfriend.
Instead, he was flooded with inquiries from older men. At first, the requests were simple. One man offered to send him $50 bucks if he would take his shirt off. From there, everything went downhill.
Eventually, Justin Berry was stripping naked, masturbating and even having sex with female prostitutes in front of his webcam.
One man even tricked Justin's mom into sending Justin to a computer camp. When Justin arrived at the computer camp, the older man picked him up, took him home and molested him several times.
NOT an isolated incident
Authorities estimated that 1 in 5 children have been approached by online predators. And even the most vigilante parents can't protect their children 100% of the time.
Consider the case of Katherine Tarbox. At 14, she was at the top of her class. And she was molested by an online predator who she'd been communicating with for over 6 months.
The online predator never mentioned sex during their chat sessions. He played her confidant and friend, slowly winning her trust.
Turns out, Katherine was going to bed very early in order to wake up early and chat with this online predator first thing in the morning.
This serves as a prime example that you can't always be available to monitor your kids.
So what can you do? You can't always be there in person. Traditional internet protection software only blocks harmful websites and does NOT prevent online predators from contacting and chatting with your child.
To truly protect your child, you've got to be 100% aware of everything that your child is doing online. And the only way to do that is to fight fire with fire.
Some parents might not like the idea of knowing exactly what websites your child visits, knowing exactly what's being said during chat sessions and knowing exactly what emails are being sent.
But for those parents who do want to know and believe it's vitally important to stay 100% aware, there are now companies that offer sophisticated computer monitoring. This allows parents to be 100% aware of what their kids are doing online at all times.

How Can I Talk to My Child About Alcohol?
# Encourage conversation. Encourage your child to talk about whatever interests him or her. Listen without interruption and give your child a chance to teach you something new. Your active listening to your child’s enthusiasms paves the way for conversations about topics that concern you.
# Ask open-ended questions. Encourage your teen to tell you how he or she thinks and feels about the issue you’re discussing. Avoid questions that have a simple “yes” or “no” answer.
# Control your emotions. If you hear something you don’t like, try not to respond with anger. Instead, take a few deep breaths and acknowledge your feelings in a constructive way.
# Make every conversation a “win-win” experience. Don’t lecture or try to “score points” on your teen by showing how he or she is wrong. If you show respect for your child’s viewpoint, he or she will be more likely to listen to and respect yours.
# Draw the line. Set clear, realistic expectations for your child’s behavior. Establish appropriate consequences for breaking rules and consistently enforce them.
# Offer acceptance. Make sure your teen knows that you appreciate his or her efforts as well as accomplishments. Avoid hurtful teasing or criticism.
# Understand that your child is growing up. This doesn’t mean a hands-off attitude. But as you guide your child’s behavior, also make an effort to respect his or her growing need for independence and privacy.
Drug abuse used to be considered a moral failing, with addicts written off as willful and incorrigible. Today, teen drug abuse is more likely to be seen as a physiological disorder, a disease that can be treated and eventually conquered. Approaches to treatment for drug abuse vary, but people in treatment all learn how to change their behavior and reduce their cravings. Relapses are common, but people who stick with drug addiction treatment and can reclaim healthy, productive lives.
Drug addiction certainly can be treated. While drug abuse used to be viewed as being, at best, a weak, flawed person’s response to life’s pressures and temptations, today most professionals who work with teen drug addiction consider it a medical condition, on the same plane as diabetes or heart disease. And just as someone with diabetes or heart disease has to institute lifestyle changes and take medications, teens in treatment for drug addiction learn behavioral changes and often take medications as part of their treatment regimen. This change in attitude has helped boost hope for many teens and their families.
In fact, one of the reasons drug abuse is so prevalent is that many folks who need treatment for drug abuse don’t get it. The U.S. Department of Labor posted a report recently of one study showing that 47 percent of men and 41 percent of women in need of treatment for abuse of illicit drugs are not treated. Much of this gap between need and actual treatment comes from inadequate funding for drug abuse treatment and inadequate education about drugs and drug treatment.
There are many ways in which drug and alcohol addiction can be treated, and that treatment can lead to permanent recovery if the person fighting the addiction makes a real commitment to a treatment program and sticks with it. According to several studies, drug treatment reduces drug use by 40 to 60 percent, but, typically, only for people who stay in treatment for three months or longer.
Treatment for drug and alcohol abuse is a long process that involves not only recovery from the physical effects of substance abuse but therapy that allows drug abusers to understand the psychological and social roots of their addictions and learn new ways of coping. As much as they need to stop using, they also need to recognize the emotional triggers that can cause them to start using again. That’s why it’s important to choose the treatment program that best serves the individual needs of the recovering addict.

Effects Of Domestic Violence On Children
by Arthor Penz
Children who witnesses domestic violence against his or her parent is a victim of domestic violence as well. Approximately five million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year. A child may be a witness to his or her parent being emotionally abused, physically abused, economically abused and/or even sexually abused.
No matter how hard a parent tries to shield their child from the abuse he or she receives from an abusive partner, the child usually knows what is occurring. Even a young infant can tune into the tension and emotional feelings of his or her mother.
Most children will experience problems if they live in a violent home and witness a parent being abused. Children who witness abuse are more inclined to have behavior and emotional problems. Some children will develop psychosomatic disorders. This may include bed-wetting, school problems, night terrors, stuttering, excessive fear and crying. Children may experience depression, suicidal behaviors and phobias if they are kept in a violent household.
Older children may blame themselves for the abuse a parent receives. Older children may even step into the abuse to direct the attention onto themselves and off of the battered parent. There is a great risk that children who witness abuse may grow up thinking that violence is the only means to resolve emotional and relationship conflicts. Boys who grow up in an abusive home are more likely to batter their future partners versus boys who grow up in a nonviolent home. Children who have witnessed abuse to a parent are also more likely to drink alcohol and abuse drugs.
Children who live in a domestically violent home will suffer some form of neglect, be it physical or emotional. It isn’t always just the mother who is abused, but the children may be abused as well. Many adults who were abused when they were children report that witnessing the abuse to their mother was harder for them to deal with then the abuse they personally received.

Father Son Bonding Time
Hey, Daddy! Will You Play With Me?" The value of time spent with a child can never be measured by merely counting up the minutes. In today's society, as both parents are frequently working outside the home and television, computers, and video games dominate a large percentage of a family's free time, it is more important than ever for parents to spend intentional quality time with a child.
Whether a mother works out of the home or not, she will tend to spend a significant amount of her day directly interacting with her children. Fathers, even extremely devoted dads, spend significantly less time with their children, and much of that is spent taking care of domestic responsibilities such as home work, baths, cleaning, and so forth. While little girls have the example of their mom to mimic to help them develop into your ladies, the best role model for little boys is typically not quite as available. Because these young boys need all the help they can get in growing into fine young men, it is imperative that fathers devote time to their sons.
Sometimes, this task is easier said than done. Dads are often not natural nurturers and can easily fall into the trap of watching a ball game or a movie on the television and call that quality time. That is not good, quality time that will produce the desired results. Lyn's Toy Shop is here to help you along.
Lyn's carries a variety of toys that would be ideal for bringing father and son together in interactive play. A natural choice is football. For little feet, there are even miniature footballs that are perfect for fun active play between a father and his son. For days that are too cold or wet or when an indoor activity is more appropriate, why not settle down together, and play a board game. Having the side focus on the game will make it easier for conversations to open up, which will encourage your son to feel comfortable expressing his thoughts and feelings as he witnesses his dad doing the same. For a more challenging activity, you might consider embarking on an origami project! Both the zoo animal and the dinosaur origami kits are sure to be an absolute blast as you and your son witness the transformation of a regular piece of paper into a ferocious beast! Or you may feel that since mom is teaching the girls to be the princess of the palace, you ought to get your little guy used to be king of the castle. Lyn's Toy Shop has a foam castle construction kit that can provide hours of play and fun for you and your miniature man.
It will take a little effort, but planning intentional quality time with your son will pay off in the end in ways that you could never believe. If you aren't convinced, then go talk to about a hundred guys or so whose fathers didn't think spending time with their sons was particularly valuable. They are easy to find. Just ask the next police officer that you come across what the address is of the nearest jail! Now, you don't ever want to have to visit your son there, do you? I didn't think so, so ... What are you waiting for? Get playing!

Turning Point
Turning Point
By: genrev07
We all grown up to the breast of our mother and been sheltered to the arms of our father, time passed so quickly that we never noticed the abundance which we have from the love of heavenly and most high God. Considering all nature of growth (physical and mental) we look towards our parents who indeed raised and nurtured us by their will to make us better and strong person as we are now. The credits are all for them, they say behind the success of a man is a woman and the root of strength woman has was inspired by her man in other words they are bound to work hand in hand and besides it takes two to tango as I may say. Because of love everything seems so perfect, not until the time ticks on its worse. The fact that if we look at our own basic necessities and most are of personal satisfaction, we never realized what we have been doing for our own sake wasn’t the right thing and we loses some tracts of it due to empowering and gearing up one’s intention to raised up credibility and be known for his own will. This content might be fulfilling for every parents heart seeing us living up to what they expect us to be or the other way around.
Acknowledgment comes for the parents. The role of parenting is not that easy, every path leading to nowhere makes them vulnerable for failure but despite of these failures parents stand firm for us ensuring our future for whatever it takes, that is what we called the unconditional love. But it’s not actually of whom and what; basically my point here is to make each of us realized the nature of all these, the author and finisher which in reality we may not know, how things are happening and why it is happening?
Have you ever asked yourself about knowing whom to deal with in times of your troubles, whom to thank when you’re in success? Parents; mother, father, they nurtured us with love and fill every needs and given up everything for us, it is right to give them the honor and respect, love them for they are worth and entitled for that.
Above all these, there still Someone, Somebody that is to be acknowledge with all heart and might worthy to be honor and praise the Author and finisher of our lives, none other than “Jesus” our savior and our God. We may not know Him and see Him on our time but truly a life giver and provider of everything we have. It may be hard to understand but come to think of what our faith can do not knowing that the possible reason why we are successful on our career or even better is because it is a provision from God and He allow things to happen upon us to proclaim goodness and give glory for His name.
Our Beloved parent is just an instrument and even us, everything is according to His plans and His will shall be done. We might have the power and the wealth and we put the credits for individual persons and at the worse time we are struggling for truth. Truth which in fact setting us free from everything that surrounds us. When was the last time we pray and ask God’s presence or giving Him thanks for what He has done to our lives. What if our parents and friends turn their backs on us? Will you still be fair enough towards them?
Sometimes individual meet their limitations and when it happen things get worse and worse. Up to that point where we couldn’t control ourselves from being wasted an eye opener will appear, we never know when and how but it is the will of the Lord. That will be the time we will know the truth about Him, the Father that never leave us and never forsaken us (Hebrew 13:5) He never promise a smooth sailing life ups and down are part of it, so from then on whom we will give the credits or acknowledgment? Whom we will trust? And who shall be adored and worthy to be praised, honor and adore….
No one but Him the Lord Jesus Christ our FATHER, FRIEND AND OUR GOD….
10 Parenting Tips For Fathers
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=G_Paul_Pruitt]G Paul Pruitt
Are you a father that wants to have a better relationship with his children? Do you feel that you could be doing more? Are you a new father looking for great advice on raising children? Here are 10 great tips for fathers.
1. Play with your child
Children love it when you play with them. Especially boys. It can be playing board games or playing sports. Or as simple as chasing around the yard. The important thing is that you are giving them your time, and that is what a child wants.
2. Read with your child
Children love to learn. And books are a great way to learn. Read with your child, and they will grow up loving to read. Your child may try and just read certain types of books, but try and find a variety of books. Some, your child won't like. Some they will. The point is to expose them to the many different types of books as early and as often as you can.
3. Change your child's diapers
I don't know why men are afraid of this one. I've been involved with changing my children's diapers ever since the first one was born. Yes, it can be smelly. Yes, it can be messy. You will survive. And your wife will appreciate you helping out.
4. Be firm, but gentle
From time to time, your child will need to be disciplined. This should start early and ideally be done by both parents, not just one. Parents need to agree on what should be disciplined and how. When your child needs to be disciplined, it is important to be firm. Your child, especially as they get older, may try to test you. If you don't remain firm, your child will not learn to obey you. But you need to be gentle. Children are fragile. I'm not saying that you shouldn't spank your children, but rather that if it is necessary, a quick one or two swats in a younger child is often enough to get their attention. Often, though, this isn't necessary unless you are in a situation where you are out in public and you need to get their attention quick. A better way is to use a time out. When used properly, a time out can be very effective.
5. Listen to all sides
Disagreements will arise between your child and others, whether they are siblings or cousins, or other children. It is important that before you decide what you should do, you need to listen to both sides. You may not know everything that led up to the disagreement, so this is important in deciding what to do.
6. Be fair
Sometimes, when you discipline one, you must discipline another as well. That is part of why you must listen to both sides. But being fair extends to more than just discipline. Being fair when you have multiple children is that you make sure you do things for both. There may be times when you have to pay more attention to one than the other, like when one is an infant and the other can fend at least partially for themselves. But you must not do this to the exclusion of the other. As they grow older, it can be important that you find time to do things with each of them. Just remember to be fair in the time you spend with all of your children.
7. Cook (and not just on the grill)
Some men disdain the kitchen. They will go out of their way to prove they don't know how to cook. Or if they do cook, will only do so on the grill. Cooking in the kitchen not only gives your wife a break, but also shows your children that men can cook.
8. Help with the housework.
The only thing some men disdain more than cooking, it is helping with the cleaning of the house. You don't have to maintain a spotless household, but helping to keep the house clean and orderly helps keep the environment safe for your children. With you helping to do the housework, your wife will be able to relax and have more time to spend with you as well. Just because certain roles are "given" by society to men and others to women does not mean that the other can't do the work.
9. Be available and present
You don't have to spend every moment you are around with your children. However, there are times when your child needs your attention. Make yourself available to your child. But you must also remember to be present. Just being physically present when your child needs you may not be enough if you are busy on the computer, watching television, or on the phone. Look your child in the eye and listen to what they need so you can better help them with what they need.
10. Remember to teach.
As a parent, you are a role model, Even if your child is in school, there are things you can teach your child that schoolteachers can't teach. Be involved in what your child is learning. You may not be able to help with everything. Help with what you can. Remember, the most important thing you can teach your child is how to interact with others, and you do that with how you interact with your child and with others.
These 10 parenting tips for fathers can help you be a better parent. Follow them, and you can raise happy, well adjusted children.
