“Embassy on Wheels” in Al Khobar during Ramadan
The plan of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh to hold another outreach service in Al Khobar during Ramadan will push through, Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor assured the Filipino community in the Eastern Province. The next “Embassy on Wheels” (EOW) will take place once again at the International Philippine School in Al Khobar (IPSA) on 19-20 August 2010 (the 9th and 10th day of Ramadan). About 900 applicants from the previous EOWs are expected to come and claim their new Machine Readable Passports (MRPs); while about 500 more from the last EOW on July 15-16 should return to sign and affix their thumb marks on their MRP applications. Besides, there are those who will yet apply for passport renewal or first passports of their newly born children. The EOW pegs the number of such applications that can be encoded to 400 on Thursday and 200 on Friday, and those that will exceed the cut-off may pay the processing fee but will have to return for the next EOW to complete the procedure. They will then be prioritized in the processing of their passport applications. The EOW also accommodates an unlimited number of applicants for notarial services, for the servicing of documents such as affidavits, Special Powers of Attorney as well as issuance of certification needed for police clearance application. Thus, to provide maximum service to the public despite the observance of fasting by some of its members, the EOW team will maintain its schedule from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Thursday and from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday. In view of the solemnity of the holy month of Ramadan as practiced in the Kingdom, Ambassador Villamor appeals to the transacting public to do their part to ensure and maintain a peaceful and orderly conduct of the EOW services. “I also call on the hardworking community leaders and EOW volunteers from different organizations, who stand at the vanguard of the Embassy, to always guard their ranks and their names by upholding the highest standards and principles of volunteerism,” the Ambassador counseled. “When conditions are made more difficult not only by the sheer number of applicants and soaring heat, but also by hasty and unfair criticisms from some unappreciative sectors of the public who benefit from the Embassy’s outreach, the challenge is for us to continue to deliver conscientious and wholehearted service,” he added.
