A baby girl born early Sunday has officially pushed the population of the Philippines to 100 million, highlighting the challenge of providing for more people in the already-impoverished nation. PHILIPPINES, Manila: A nurse holds the symbolic “100 millionth Filipino baby”, the baby making the Philippines population hit 100 Million. AFP Photo The child, Jennalyn Sentino, was one of 100 babies born in state hospitals all over the archipelago who received the symbolic designation of "100,000,000th baby". "This is both an opportunity and a challenge... an opportunity we should take advantage of and a challenge we recognise," Juan Antonio Perez, executive director of the official Commission on Population, told AFP. While a growing population means a larger workforce, it also means more dependents in a country where about 25 percent of people are living in poverty, he said."

 THOUSANDS of  Iglesia ni Cristo members have begun to congregate at the newly-built Cuidad de Victoria in Bulacan as the Christian church prepared to celebrate its centennial today. A grand centennial. The Philippine Stadium (main photo)  and Philippine Arena, two architectural marvels, are  preened for the centennial celebration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. INC members arrive early for the rites. SONNY ESPIRITU Around two to three million people are expected to attend the celebration of the church that has grown tremendously since its official registration on July 27, 1914 by Felix Y. Manalo, its charismatic founder who formulated the church’s theology after dissatisfaction with Catholic and Protestant teachings. “The pace of the spread of  Iglesia... has exploded,” church spokesman Edwil Zabala told Agence France Presse during a tour of the Cuidad de Victoria complex, which includes a 55,000-seat indoor stadium, to promote the centenary."

Lyca Gairanod, one of Team Sarah's two bets in the "Final Showdown" of the hit talent search, clinched the title after getting the highest percentage of public votes. Teammate Darren Espanto finished 1st-runner up, while Team Bamboo's Juan Karlos Labajo and Team Lea's Darlene Vibrares and finished as runner-ups of the competition. During the performance night on Saturday, Gairanod impressed the coaches with her performance of the Regine Velasquez classic, "Narito Ako.""

 Schedule of Consular Outreach for 2014

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh announces the schedule of Consular Outreach Missions or “Embassy on Wheels” (EOW) for the year 2014.

The regular EOW will cater to the following consular services:

Passport renewal;
New passport for newborn babies;
Passport releasing;
Lost passport application;
Notarial and authentication services; and
Report of Birth registration.
Passport applicants will have to obtain an online appointment through the Philippine Embassy website http://www.philembassy-riyadh.org.  The online system will enable an applicant to choose his/ her preferred date and time of appointment for ePassport renewal.

An applicant should have a valid e-mail address to enable the automatic sending of the appointment confirmation. Applicants are also advised to refrain from making multiple bookings so as not to deprive other applicants from securing their own appointments.

Online appointments for a particular EOW will be opened 2 months before its scheduled conduct.

"The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Riyadh (POLO-Riyadh) has allegedly been forced to move from its office in the plush Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh because of violent incidents that had taken place there during last year’s labor correction campaign. The Philippine Embassy announced recently that the office would be moved to the West Umul Hamam District. It did not provide an explanation, but a source told Arab News that POLO-Riyadh was ordered to leave the building it was renting inside the Diplomatic Quarter. The reason for the decision were the “untoward incidents during the crackdown on illegal foreign workers launched by the Kingdom in April 2013,” he said."
