Applying for a passport in PHL? Go to the mall
Applying for a passport in the Philippines? No problem, go to the shopping mall. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said one of the agency's programs to improve the country's passport processing system includes setting up consular offices in shopping malls nationwide. This will help applicants avoid long queues at the DFA main office in Pasay City, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario during the 114th founding anniversary of the DFA. He said the DFA Office of Consular Affairs (OCA) is drafting a new set of guidelines to make the passport application process simpler and easier. One of the targets of the guidelines was the opening of the first 13 consular offices in Metro Manila and other key cities before the end of the year. The ongoing transfer of DFA consular offices to shopping malls nationwide is under Public-Private Partnership arrangements. The DFA recently entered into memoranda of agreement with private firms operating a chain of malls nationwide, including SM Prime Holdings, Ayala Land, Robinsons Land Corporation and Pacific Mall Corporation." At least 40 governors plan to challenge the Aquino administration’s new mining policy in the Supreme Court the moment it is signed, according to Albay Governor Joey Salceda. "Unbelievable but true: Astronomers have discovered two planets so close to each other each can be seen in the other's night sky, just like a moon. Researchers said the two planets are just 1.9 million km of each other, according to an article posted on Space.com. "This is unprecedented.... They are as different in density as Earth and Saturn (the highest and lowest density planets in our solar system), yet they are (20) times closer than any pair of planets in our solar system," Space.com quoted co-lead author Eric Agol of the University of Washington as saying. He was referring to planets Kepler-36b and c, which are 1,200 light-years from Earth and which researchers described as an unprecedented find."

"VALENCIA - Michael Schumacher was taken by surprise on Sunday after ending up on the Formula One podium for the first time in nearly six years. The sport's most successful driver, with seven championships and 91 race wins under his belt, finished third for Mercedes in the European Grand Prix in Valencia to remind himself how it felt to spray champagne in the sunshine. The German who retired from glamour team Ferrari in 2006 and then started a comeback in 2010, was able to savor at long last an achievement that some of his critics felt last year was frankly beyond him. Now 43, he became the oldest driver on the podium since Australian triple champion Jack Brabham finished second in Britain in 1970 at the age of 44."
