"Iglesia ni Cristo celebrates 100 years

THOUSANDS of Iglesia ni Cristo members have begun to congregate at the newly-built Cuidad de Victoria in Bulacan as the Christian church prepared to celebrate its centennial today. A grand centennial. The Philippine Stadium (main photo) and Philippine Arena, two architectural marvels, are preened for the centennial celebration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. SONNY ESPIRITU Around two to three million people are expected to attend the celebration of the church that has grown tremendously since its official registration on July 27, 1914 by Felix Y. Manalo, its charismatic founder who formulated the church’s theology after dissatisfaction with Catholic and Protestant teachings. “The pace of the spread of Iglesia... has exploded,” church spokesman Edwil Zabala told Agence France Presse during a tour of the Cuidad de Victoria complex, which includes a 55,000-seat indoor stadium, to promote the centenary."
