Prayers For OFWs Around the World

Prayers For OFWs Around the World

Dear God,

You crossed every border between divinity and humanity to make your home with us. Bless  our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who have travelled to foreign lands with faith in their heart leaving their families behind as they break through the barriers of people, cultures, and languages to escape oppression and poverty.

There are many things going on that are beyond us even with our collective power. We come to thee in supplication and heartfelt pleadings as we are mindful of the ordeals of others.

We thank Thee for hearing the prayers of your people as China grant reprieve to our three OFWs and may the Chinese government grant a lesser penalty to their case.

We pray for the thousands of OFWs who were incarcerated and imprisoned in the Middle East, Asia and other continents, may Thou please grant them a new hope  and  freedom to return to their families to begin a new life as they entrust their lives into Thy hands. May Thou enlighten our leaders to put the plights of distressed OFWs as a priority and withdraw from plans of cutting the budget allocation for DFA's social service and legal assistance funds.

We pray to Thee that our OFWs in Taiwan will soon be relieved of the fears and uncertainties that haunts them on the current Taiwan-Philippines rift. May the government emissary would soon find an immediate resolution to this issue so that those more than five thousand scheduled for deployment will now be allowed to take on their jobs, and the nearly a hundred thousand currently employed may keep their jobs and be able to sustain their families.

We pray that may Thou please keep our overseas Filipinos safe in the escalating conflict in countries where democratic renaissance in Muslim nations is unfolding from Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Libya as they await the immediate repatriation efforts being taken by our government agencies and may their families in the Philippines be freed from fear and worries of their condition and that the OFWs safety is assured despite the worsening condition.

We pray that may Thou save from harm our Filipino workers in war torn countries of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as OFWs in Nigeria, Somalia, Lebanon and Jordan, who have taken great risks to continue their fight against poverty to support their families in the Philippines despite of the work deployment ban imposed in these countries.

We pray for the safety of the Filipino nurses trapped in the rubbles during the earthquake in New Zealand, and the rest of the OFWs and Expats around the world who are suffering from natural calamities, diseases and injustices that they may find comfort through faith in Thee.

Hear our prayer Lord, to end the corruption that plague of our nation, the poverty  and violence that displaces millions of our Filipinos from their homes, which separate and divide families.

As we await for the signs of time when the Filipinos around the world, the fathers and mothers brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters may be reunited as one happy family. that going abroad as an OFW is the least option. We pray for Thine tender love and kind mercy, with our faith, with our hope, with our love to thee, we pray for power greater than us all, we pray for divine intervention.

This is a joint call from the Pinoy Expats/OFW Blog Awards, or PEBA, Inc, along with its 300+ KABLOGS, the RMN News Bantay OFW radio program and the Blas Ople Policy Center and we are asking for your prayers or support by reposting this to your blog, posting this link in your FB, Friendster and Twitter accounts or sending this as email to your networks.

Press Release No. APV- 42- 2010

Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines

01 September 2010

The Copenhagen Deal

The Copenhagen Deal

Are countries doing enough to protect our children?

While the Copenhagen summit represents a rare window of opportunity to address the issue of climate change, countries are hard-pressed against the economics when it comes to policy making. No doubt the motivation would be great during the summit, country leaders will face the dilemma of improving the economics of their country with restricted resources and still having to drive towards the direction of a greener world.

The reduction targets pledged by some countries still fall short of meeting the 2 degrees target, which was a suggestion by the Prime Minister of Denmark and recommendations from scientists. Close to 100 country leaders commit to attend the Copenhagen Climate Conference, and UN is confident of success in a press release dated 19 Nov in the UN News Centre. The United Nations Climate Change Conference which spans from 7 - 18 December 2009 is going to be an eye-opener.

The pressure is on. Many parties agree that failure in the summit is not an option. This year, we have the US President at the Danish capital, yet another pressure to the political decisions and management faced by the President since the first day he stepped into office. President Obama already has a handful back home with the latest announcement regarding the Afghanistan war yesterday, plus the supposedly dropping confidence in him by his fellow countrymen. Yet, his reputation remains high and gains respect from the world, as evident from his trip to China a while ago.

Somehow, country leaders should put aside their differences because it is a global issue that they face at hand. While there may be claims of patriotism regarding the country, the Earth is a shared and leased property, and the owners are the children of tomorrow. It would be fantastic if indeed each and everyone on Earth could contribute some positive changes.

Let us hope that the country leaders will set a realistic and achievable goal during the summit. Let's also hope that these goals are backed by steps for reinforcements and valid applications.

Stay tuned to the progress of the Copenhagen summit with [http://greentechnology.mobi]http://greentechnology.mobi.

Proclamation 1959 (Martial Law) in Maguindao

Proclamation 1959 (Martial Law) in Maguindao by PGMA

I woke up this morning, while listening to DZMM radio news, I was shocked with the proclamation of Martial Law or 1959 in Maguindanao by PGMA. I ask myself is this will be another martial law era. Though the purpose is to suppress the rumors of rebellion against the government.

I am not really equip by our laws but from the comment of one guest that the proclamation of martial law is unsubstantial. Because there is no rebellion happening and so on. I hope that this proclamation will serve on the purpose of speedy Maguindanao massacre investigation, peace and order only. And not for any political vested interest.

Climate Change in Coastal Area - Philippines

Climate Change in Coastal Area - Philippines

In connection to my previous post about a 13 years old Severn Cullis-Suzuki's speech for the Earth Summit in 1992. Here is another educational info about a climate change. Please bare with me if the language is in Tagalog (Filipino Dialect). The English sub-title will enhance your viewing. This video is brought to you by Norway Government and World Bank for the effect of Climate Change in the Philippines Coastal area.

"This 15 minute video is part of a larger effort to raise awareness and build capacity on climate change impacts among coastal communities in the Philippines. The video is the result of work undertaken jointly by World Bank staff in the Philippines, local communities and other national stakeholders." as mentioned by worldbank youtube user.

I believe that this video is not only for the Philippines but for the whole world as well. Let us help to rebuild our mother earth. This is our home.

The Girl Who Silence the World for 5 Minutes (Earth Summit)

The Girl Who Silence the World for 5 Minutes (Earth Summit)

Earth summit, a major conference held in Rio De Janero from June 3-14, 1992. A thirteen years old girl addressed her speech about the environment to the United Nation Conference on Environment and development

This was a very inspiring speech by Severn Cullis-Suzuki, from Canada. She and other activist compiled a book title "Young Activist A generation that stand up for change."

After the calamities that occurred in the different part of the world. The latest is Storm Ondoy that battered Manila, Philippines. This is a wake up call. Let us spread our concern to the environment. There is no other place like home. Let us protect and safe the world for our children and children - children.

Are We Over Protecting Our Children?

Are We Over Protecting Our Children?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tony_S_Gee]Tony S Gee

The short answer to this question is simply 'YES'.

Fears regarding safety and litigation have resulted in playgrounds that are unchallenging and unappealing to young people. Parents are obsessively concerned with protecting their children and this is leading to their offspring not developing the resilience and physical skills that they need.

The streets today are choked with traffic, unrecognisable compared with the roads that we used to play in as children. And the toys of today (video games and computers) actually appear to encourage physical idleness. The explosion in the use of the mobile phone has also contributed to the lazy, sedentary lives that many of us and our children lead today.

Surveys of children and young people have shown that most would actually like to spend more time engaged in healthy activities but facilities no longer exist. Many of us can recall growing up at a time when people were poor and there were very few purpose built facilities for young people. We look at the modern parks and play areas and think 'what is wrong with kids today, we didn't have all this when we were young.'

It is true that the modern, well designed and safe play areas and parks didn't exist when we were young but what we did have was space. The roads were far less crowded and it was possible to play football or soccer in the street outside your house. Where there are now housing estates and car parking spaces there was once open space, ideal for adventurous play. The playgrounds of the sixties and seventies would have just a few pieces of poorly maintained playground equipment. Maybe a slide, some swings and occasionally a roundabout. The fact that the equipment was old and a little dangerous made it all the more exciting! Today much of this equipment would be considered unsafe and local authorities would not allow it to be used for fear of expensive claims for damages if a child hurt themselves using it.

It is us, the older generation who are responsible for these changes and the growing risk aversion that is denying our children the opportunities to play outdoors. I am not suggesting that we should tolerate poorly maintained or dangerous playground equipment in our parks and play areas but what I am saying is that we are responsible for the overcrowded, unhealthy society in which we live today and the over-protection of our youngsters. The developmental needs of our children have been pushed aside as we have tried to make everything ultra-safe in order to allay our anxieties whilst, at the same time, we've allowed our towns and cities to become horribly overcrowded.

We need to fix things now! We need to provide our children with the opportunities to play outdoors, to have adventures, to develop their physical skills, resilience and to be trusted. We need to take a hard look at the society that we have created and the examples that we set and take steps to make it a healthy society with facilities and attitudes that encourage youngsters to develop healthy habits.
